Polar bear protection

In order to rent a gun for polar bear protection you need to apply for a temporary gun license at the Governor of Svalbard (See link futher down for applying form and information about the applying process).

The Governor of Svalbard need a Certificate of good conduct from a local or national law enforcement department, which needs to bear the department’s official seal (No photo copy will be approved). Important: The certificate must be in the name of the person responsible for the gun. The certificate must not be older than 6 months. There are though a few exceptions:

i. EU residents ONLY: Persons in possession of a legal and valid European weapons license/passport (available at your local Police Authority, or countries gun licensing section). More information: Contact your local police authority. Important: The certificate must be in the name of the person responsible for the gun.

ii. Norwegian Firearms Certificate

iii. Other documentation proving the person is authorized or permitted to carry a firearm in his or her home country

When you arrive to our store, you will need an approved application from the Governor of Svalbard, with his official seal (No photo copy). You will also need a passport belonging to the applying person.

Reservation:

If your attending Svalbard, and need to rent a gun, please contact us as soon as possible for gun reservation.


Fees:

We charge 60 NOK for each day you have the gun. We also need a deposit of 1500 NOK. This deposit will be returned after rental.

Payment:

Usually there is no need for you to pay up front, but if that is most convenient for you, it is no problem for us.
